The Wynnum Bayside Camera Club would like to acknowledge the support of our local state member Joan Pease, and the government's Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF); late last year, the Club was able to buy some much needed equipment which totalled around $10,500.
"Without this money, we could not maintain our organisation." remarked Club President Ashley Dickson, "To buy new equipment like a data projector and screen, or a laption, is simply beyond our means. We appreciate the support being given to local groups like ours."
The Club has over the past year become increasingly involved with other local organisations, such as the Manly Dragon Boats, Wynnum Golf Club, Bayside Sea Scouts, Regis Aged Care and Wynnum Junior Leagues Club, by providing members to either photograph events or help others improve on their photography skills. "It's important for a local club to support other local groups. We see ourselves very much as part of the community."
The Waterloo Leisure Centre at Tingal Road, Wynnum, celebrated its 39th birthday. Our members were on hand to record elderly folk and their families enjoying the birthday lunch.
Our club has offered assistance to clubs and institutions in our community by providing photographic support. The Wynnum Manly Junior Rugby League is preparing a new website and our members were able to assist with shots of the club environment, juniors on the field and food served in the club restaurant.
In the past year, WBCC has also supported the Manly Dragon Boat and Bayside Sea Scout clubs.
Members and guests enjoyed the LEAP event held at the WBCC club rooms, sponsored by Canon™ Australia; company representative Margaret challenged everyone to think "outside the square", using both props like Lego toys and glow sticks, as well as objects around the building. Those taking part were able to have their shots printed using high resolution printers supplied by the event sponsor; feedback from participants were generally positive.
A video of the day's events can be viewed on our public Facebook page.
For the second time in two years, the Wynnum Manly Leagues Club (WMLC) has awarded our club a grant as part of their community grants program. This support will pay for the cost of our hall hire each year, as well as making a contribution to our web site hosting expenses. Our club expresses its appreciation for this generous donation. The illustrations show club president Ashley receiving the cheque from members of the WMLC board.
